Storyline
Chinese President Xi Jinping attended a welcome ceremony held by U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House on Thursday morning.
Upon arrival, Xi and his wife Peng Liyuan were greeted by Trump and his wife Melania Trump before heading inside.
A military band played the national anthems of the two countries. Then the two heads of state delivered respective addresses.
After concluding their speeches, Xi and Trump, accompanied by their wives, stepped onto a balcony facing the south lawn of the White House to watch a presidential salute performed by the U.S. Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon.
The two couples then proceeded to the Rose Garden to attend a military review as part of the welcome ceremony, which featured trumpeters and flag-bearers on the rooftop and a series of performances and demonstrations by traditional military bands.
The military review concluded with a special fly-over featuring a B-2 Spirit bomber and four F-22 Raptor fighter jets.
At the invitation of Trump, Xi is on a state visit to the United States from Wednesday to Friday.
