Storyline
Local farmers and agricultural technicians say Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to their village in Dezhou City, east China’s Shandong Province on Wednesday has warmed their hearts and encouraged them to guarantee grain production.
The visit to Dongyujia Village by Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, came during the summer sowing season when the local fields are bustling with farming activities.
In the village, Xi learned about the local wheat harvest, corn planting, and agricultural supplies. He also walked into a farmland and talked with farmers, farming machinery operators, and agricultural technicians.
Xi emphasized that ensuring the stable supply of grains and other agricultural products is the top priority in agricultural production, stressing efforts to well implement all supportive policies for grain production so as to secure a bumper grain harvest throughout the year.
The locals briefed Xi on the fruitful outcomes achieved through the implementation of the government’s farmer-benefiting policies, the adoption of integrated water and fertilizer systems, and the comprehensive mechanization of farming operations.
They also pledged to leverage agricultural science and technology to further improve yields and make contributions to safeguarding food security for the country.

Li Lianjun, another grain grower, spoke highly of the government’s pro-agriculture policies for farmers.

Farming machinery operator Song Zhijie noted the high mechanization rate of crop cultivation and harvesting, and the favorable subsidy policies for agricultural machinery.

The agricultural technicians said the adoption of integrated water and fertilizer systems have transformed local farming and pledged to better support the villagers with their expertise and knowhow.

A major grain-producing hub on the North China Plain, the city of Dezhou produces more than 7.5 million tonnes of grain every year in recent years. Although it occupies just over 10,000 square kilometers, Dezhou contributes more than one kilogram out of every 100 kilograms of grain produced nationwide.
By the end of 2025, 85.2 percent of Dezhou’s farmland had been upgraded into high-standard farmland, laying a solid foundation for stable harvests.
So far this year, more than 90 percent of China’s summer grain harvest has been completed, with another bumper harvest largely secured.
“Congratulations to you on the bumper summer harvest, and we have high hopes for the autumn harvest as well. Let’s hope for another good harvest this year. Everyone, thank you for your hard work,” Xi said.
The locals also say they feel inspired by Xi’s congratulation message and will work harder to help safeguard China’s food security.
