Storyline
The Chinese mainland reported 94 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases and 30 new imported ones as on Wednesday, said the National Health Commission in its daily report on Thursday.
Of the new local cases, 39 were reported in Anhui, 32 in Shanghai, four each in Beijing, Inner Mongolia and Jiangsu, three in Shaanxi, two each in Fujian, Shandong and Guangdong, and one each in Tianjin and Shanxi, the commission said.
The 30 new imported cases were reported in eight provincial-level regions, including 11 in Shanghai, seven in Fujian, five in Guangdong, two each in Beijing and Jiangsu, and one each in Shanxi, Heilongjiang and Henan, according to the commission.
Twelve of the local cases and four of the imported cases were re-categorized as confirmed ones from asymptomatic cases. And no new deaths or suspected cases from COVID-19 were reported on the day, it added.
One new suspected case, an imported one in Shanghai, was reported on Wednesday. No deaths from COVID-19 were reported on the day.
On Wednesday, 39 COVID-19 patients were discharged from hospital after recovery, including 18 local cases, and 4,401 close contacts were released from medical observation. The number of local severe cases was unchanged from the previous day.
The Chinese mainland has cumulatively reported 19,587 imported confirmed cases, with no deaths. Among them, 19,257 had been discharged from hospital following recovery by Wednesday, while 330 remained hospitalized, including one in severe condition.
As of 24:00 on Wednesday, the total number of local confirmed COVID-19 cases on the mainland had reached 226,300, including 809 patients still receiving treatment, of whom one was in severe condition.
A total of 220,265 COVID-19 patients had been discharged from hospital on the mainland, and 5,226 had died as a result of the virus.
On Wednesday, 285 new asymptomatic cases, with 41 from overseas and 244 locally transmitted, were reported.
The commission also said 2,106 asymptomatic cases, including 384 imported ones, were still under medical observation.
Sixteen asymptomatic cases, four from overseas, were re-categorized as active ones, and 114 asymptomatic cases, including 41 from overseas, were released from medical observation on Wednesday.
As of Wednesday, 339,998 confirmed cases including 9,406 deaths had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), while 512 confirmed cases with two deaths were registered in the Macao SAR , and 3,964,188 cases including 7,223 deaths, in the Taiwan region of China.
