Storyline
The Chinese mainland reported 162 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases and 60 new imported ones on Thursday, said the National Health Commission in its daily report on Friday.
Of the new local cases, 127 were reported in Hainan, 16 in Guangxi, 12 in Zhejiang, three in Chongqing, two in Inner Mongolia, and one each in Guangdong and Sichuan.
The 60 new imported cases were reported in 11 provincial-level regions, with 18 in Fujian, 14 in Guangdong, six in Inner Mongolia, five each in Shanghai and Sichuan, four in Shaanxi, three in Beijing, two in Shandong, and one each in Heilongjiang, Zhejiang and Yunnan.
Twenty-three of the local cases and 11 of the imported cases were re-categorized as confirmed cases from asymptomatic ones.
No new deaths from COVID-19 or additional suspected cases were reported on the day.
On Thursday, 147 COVID-19 patients were discharged from hospital after recovery, comprising 110 local cases and 37 imported ones, and 18,129 close contacts were released from medical observation. The number of local severe cases reduced by one from the previous day.
The Chinese mainland cumulatively reported 20,968 imported confirmed cases as of Thursday, with no deaths. Among them, 20,357 were discharged from hospital following recovery.
There were still 611 active imported cases on the mainland, with one severe case and no suspected cases, on Thursday.
As of 24:00 on Thursday, the total number of local confirmed COVID-19 cases on the mainland reached 230,135, with 5,226 deaths as a result of the virus.
A total of 223,286 COVID-19 patients have been discharged from hospital after recovery on the mainland. There were 1,623 patients still receiving treatment, of whom one was in severe condition.
As of Thursday, altogether 4,701,045 close contacts have been traced, of whom 101,384 were still under medical observation.
On Thursday, 317 new asymptomatic cases, with 69 from overseas and 248 locally transmitted, were reported on the mainland.
The commission also said 5,604 asymptomatic cases, including 632 imported ones, were still under medical observation.
Thirty-four asymptomatic cases, including 11 from overseas, were re-categorized as confirmed ones, and 582 asymptomatic cases, including 61 from overseas, were released from medical observation on Thursday.
As of Thursday, 358,728 confirmed cases, including 9,527 deaths, were reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), while 791 confirmed cases with six deaths were registered in the Macao SAR, and 4,675,128 cases including 9,082 deaths, in the Taiwan region of China.
