The visit of U.S. House Speaker Nancy Policy to China’s Taiwan has seriously challenged the one-China policy and posed a threat to world security, according to politicians and scholar around the world.
Richard Silumbe, president of the Leadership Movement Party in Zambia, said Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan is a deliberate attempt to stir up trouble, and all countries should respect each other’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“The Leadership Movement believes that Taiwan is part of China and the provocations that we are seeing today where Nancy Pelosi for instance, travels to Taiwan basically to provoke the situation because this is a clear thing that we should not even be expecting the U.S. to be meddling in internal affairs of China. So this has been the case all the time. We expect nations to respect other nations,” he said.
Lina Luna, a Colombian scholar of international studies slammed the U.S. for ignoring international law and international agreements for a long time, and such a mentality of playing with fire has posed threat to regional stability and world security.
“If you are trying to provoke China by approaching Taiwan, that means that you are challenging the one-China policy. The U.S. believes that international law and international agreement does not imply U.S. actions. Now we are in a world where the U.S. is playing with fire,” she said.
Zivadin Jovanovic, former minister of foreign affairs of Yugoslavia, said Pelosi’s visit shows that the U.S. totally disregards principles and international law.
Former Brazilian Speaker of the House of Representatives Aldo Rebello wrote in the Brazilian media that Pelosi’s visit was a serious provocation to China, which sends a serious wrong signal to the “Taiwan independence” forces.
Mexican Senator Jose Narro Cespedes criticized Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan in an article published in the Mexican media, pointing out that the words and deeds of American politicians not only threaten the people of the U.S. and Asia, but also put global security in risk.
