Storyline
The Chinese mainland reported 108 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases and 42 new imported ones on Tuesday, said the National Health Commission in its daily report on Wednesday.
Of the new local cases, 47 were reported in Gansu, 21 in Guangxi, 20 in Guangdong, seven in Sichuan, five in Shanghai, four in Anhui, three in Jiangxi and one in Beijing, the commission said.
A total of 42 new imported cases were reported in 13 provincial-level regions, including 17 in Guangdong, six in Fujian, five in Tianjin, two each in Beijing, Shanghai, Jiangxi and Sichuan, and one each in Liaoning, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shandong, Chongqing and Shaanxi, according to the commission.
A total of 29 asymptomatic cases and four imported ones were re-categorized as confirmed cases.
No new deaths from COVID-19 or additional suspected cases were reported on the day.
On Tuesday, 91 COVID-19 patients were discharged from hospital after recovery, including 60 local cases and 31 imported ones, and 12,298 close contacts were released from medical observation. The number of local severe cases was unchanged from the previous day.
The Chinese mainland had cumulatively reported 20,161 imported confirmed cases, with no deaths. Among them, 19,680 had been discharged from hospital following recovery by Tuesday.
There were still 481 active imported cases on the mainland, with no severe cases and no suspected cases, by Tuesday.
As of 24:00 on Tuesday, the total number of local confirmed COVID-19 cases on the mainland had reached 227,980, including 1,484 patients still receiving treatment, of whom one was in severe condition.
A total of 221,270 COVID-19 patients had been discharged from hospital on the mainland, with 5,226 deaths as a result of the virus.
As of Tuesday, altogether 4,481,672 close contacts had been traced, of whom 103,176 were still under medical observation.
On Tuesday, 862 new asymptomatic cases, with 35 from overseas and 827 locally transmitted, were reported on the mainland.
The commission also said 4,611 asymptomatic cases, including 389 imported ones, were still under medical observation.
A total of 253 asymptomatic cases, including 25 from overseas, and 228 locally reported were released from medical observation on Tuesday.
As of Tuesday, 347,122 confirmed cases, including 9,444 deaths, had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), while 762 confirmed cases with five deaths were registered in the Macao SAR, and 4,309,904 cases including 8,261 deaths, in the Taiwan region of China.
