Storyline
North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)’s expansion will bring more turmoils to the world, said an Afghani political analyst.
NATO will expand its rapid reaction force to more than 300,000 troops, Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on Monday.
Speaking ahead of the NATO Madrid Summit, Stoltenberg said he was hoping the summit will give a green light to the expansion of the rapid-reaction NATO Response Force, which now stands at 40,000.
Sayed Farhad, the political expert, said in an interview with China Central Television (CCTV) on Sunday that in the last 20 years, Afghanistan, with the U.S. and NATO troops in garrison, did not see peace and development but warfare.
“Afghanistan was not an independent country in the past 20 years, but one under U.S. control. Afghans have shed blood in vain as the U.S. is pulling strings behind,” he said.
NATO and U.S. joint forces frequently launched drone attacks and injured a large number of Afghan civilians, but they showed indifference, Farhad stressed.
“If there is any human rights spirit in the U.S., they must compensate the Afghan people. They (the U.S. and NATO troops) came, slaughtered Afghans illegally and they just went home,” he said.
In 2017, the U.S. army dropped the Massive Ordnance Air Blast bomb (MOAB), also known as “mother of all bombs”, in an air-strike mission in eastern Afghanistan. It was the first deployment of the largest non-nuclear bomb used by the U.S. military.
NATO has long misused their arsenal in Afghanistan, using the country as a testing ground for new weapons, Farhad said.
“The U.S. and NATO only care about their own targets and don’t care about the world or people at all. They used MOAB and tested various military forces and technologies in Afghanistan, which has brought severe harm to the Afghan people.” he pointed out.
The military bloc, born in the Cold War, tends to be expanding after the Russia-Ukraine conflict broke out.
NATO has taken advantage of countries’ fears of war to expand and reinforce its legitimacy, but ultimately that will cause instability to the world, the expert explained.
“They (NATO membership applicants) are deceived by NATO’s rhetoric, and it’s the plan of NATO to strengthen themselves through wars,” Farhad said.
