Storyline

Bainang County in southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region has taken advantage of its highland conditions and farming technologies to develop a state-of-the-art agricultural structure.

Once remote and infertile, Bainang is now the largest off-season vegetable supplier in Tibet, thanks to the implementation of greenhouse technology and the smooth running of local transport.

To turn its monotonous farming structure into a better one, Bainang has built 2,256 modern vegetable greenhouses and about 1,153 hectares of planting area so that it can plant various vegetables and fruits even at an altitude of 3,800 meters.

With the smooth running of local railways and highway transport, Bainang has also built itself into bases of organic vegetables, organic highland barley and organic lycium chinensis.

Not only the farming structure in Bainang has been improved, the income of local residents has also been significantly boosted. Residents say they are living a happy and prosperous life right now.

“I own three greenhouses and I earn 50,000 yuan every year. The annual income of my family tops 200,000 yuan,” said local farmer Tashi Dondrup.
