Storyline

The Chinese mainland reported 324 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases and 56 new imported ones on Sunday, said the National Health Commission in its daily report on Monday.

Of the new local cases, 259 were reported in Hainan, 37 in Guangdong, 12 in Inner Mongolia, four in Zhejiang, three in Hunan, two each in Beijing, Hebei and Guangxi, and one each in Hubei, Chongqing and Sichuan, the commission said.

The 56 new imported cases were reported in 10 provincial-level regions, including 18 in Guangdong, nine each in Fujian and Sichuan, seven in Shanghai, four each in Beijing and Guangxi, two in Jiangsu and one each in Tianjin, Heilongjiang and Yunnan, according to the commission.

A total of 42 of the local cases and six of the imported ones were re-categorized as confirmed cases from asymptomatic ones.

No new deaths from COVID-19 or additional suspected cases were reported on the day.

On Sunday, 119 COVID-19 patients were discharged from hospital after recovery, including 74 local cases and 45 imported ones, and 9,056 close contacts were released from medical observation. The number of severe cases remained unchanged from the previous day.

The Chinese mainland have cumulatively reported 21,128 imported confirmed cases as of Sunday, with no deaths. Among them, 20,520 have been discharged from hospital following recovery.

There were still 608 active imported cases on the mainland, with two severe cases and no suspected case, on Sunday.

As of 24:00 on Sunday, the total number of local confirmed COVID-19 cases on the mainland reached 231,266, with 5,226 deaths as a result of the virus.

A total of 223,770 COVID-19 patients have been discharged from hospital on the mainland. There were 2,270 patients still receiving treatment, of whom two were in severe condition.

As of Sunday, altogether 4,736,593 close contacts have been traced, of whom 98,037 were still under medical observation.

On Sunday, 560 new asymptomatic cases, with 77 from overseas and 483 locally transmitted, were reported on the mainland.

The commission also said 5,067 asymptomatic cases, including 654 imported ones, were still under medical observation.

A total of 48 asymptomatic cases, including six from overseas, were re-categorized as confirmed ones, and 486 asymptomatic cases, including 62 from overseas and 424 locally reported, were released from medical observation on Sunday.

As of Sunday, 360,773 confirmed cases, including 9,540 deaths, were reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), while 791 confirmed cases with six deaths were registered in the Macao SAR. A total of 4,738,861 cases including 9,229 deaths were logged in the Taiwan region of China.

As of Saturday, a total of 3,425,843,000 vaccine doses were administered in 31 provinces, municipalities, autonomous regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps.
