Storyline
Northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region is taking various measures to boost its tourism economy to further release economic vitality.
About 38,000 hectares of grapes have entered harvest season in Turpan, a prefecture-level city in eastern Xinjiang with a long tradition of growing grapes, and the expected output will exceed 1.2 million tons this year.
This year, hundreds of cultural tourism experiences, including farm picking experiences and homestay projects have been launched in Turpan, also encouraging fruit farmers to participate in the tourism industry.
The average daily number of tourists in the Grape Valley scenic area is currently more than 6,000.
“The number of tourists is quite high in July. Our daily turnover can reach about 4,000 yuan (around 591.6 U.S. dollars),” said Subinur, a merchant in the scenic area.
Traveling in Xinjiang has remained highly popularity this summer.
The railway department has launched 14 special tourist trains, and transportation and cultural tourism departments have introduced various measures to enhance tourists’ experiences and promote the vitality of the tourism economy.
“I especially like to eat cantaloupe and watermelon here. The scenery is very beautiful with the combination of all kinds of natural landscapes. There are so many places that I want to experience slowly,” said Dai Junfeng, a tourist from southwest China’s Chongqing Municipality.
In July, Xinjiang achieved a tourism revenue of over 29.92 billion yuan (around 4.4 billion U.S. dollars), up 23.02 percent year on year.
Seizing development opportunities, Xinjiang is further integrating resources, building quality tourism routes, and enriching new tourism formats.
“Relying on tourism scenic roads and self-driving camps, we will create new tourism formats, projects and products, so that abundant tourism brands will become the driving force for people to travel to Xinjiang,” said Zhou Hao, deputy head of the resource development division at Xinjiang culture and tourism department.
