Storyline
Argentine Ambassador to China Sabino Vaca Narvaja has expressed his firm support for China in its efforts to defend its territorial integrity, and condemned Pelosi’s visit to China’s Taiwan region, referring to it as a provocation.
Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi, second in the line of presidential succession in the country, made a visit to China’s Taiwan region this week in complete disregard of China’s strong opposition and serious representations.
During an exclusive interview with the China Media Group (CMG) on Friday in northwest China’s Shaanxi Province, the Argentine Ambassador called the visit a provocation against China, stressing the one-China principle affirmed by the United Nations (UN).
“We are sure that this visit has been a provocation for China and a problem for the entire international community. That is why we want to condemn this visit and join the voices of Latin America, and the voices of the United Nations. Because UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has declared the principle that the UN is governed by the principle of One China, such as the 1971 resolution,” said Vaca Narvaja.
The ambassador said Argentina understands very well and fully supports China’s claim to sovereignty over Taiwan.
“We permanently claim the integrity of our territory, the sovereignty of our islands, and we will always accompany China in the principle of One China, and the claim of territorial integrity concerning Taiwan, and I am sure that both China and Argentina are going to achieve this result through peaceful means,” he said.
