Storyline
The Chinese mainland reported 337 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases and 53 new imported ones on Saturday, said the National Health Commission in its daily report on Sunday.
Of the new local cases, 297 were reported in Hainan, 12 each in Inner Mongolia and Guangdong, five in Chongqing, three each in Zhejiang and Guangxi, and one each in Beijing, Jiangsu, Henan, Hunan and Guizhou, the commission said.
The 53 new imported cases were reported in 10 provincial-level regions, including 19 in Guangdong, 10 in Beijing, eight in Fujian, four each in Shandong and Sichuan, three in Shanghai, two in Jiangsu, one each in Heilongjiang, Zhejiang and Chongqing, according to the commission.
A total of 29 of the local cases and six of the imported ones were re-categorized as confirmed cases from asymptomatic ones.
No new deaths from COVID-19 or additional suspected cases were reported on the day.
On Saturday, 153 COVID-19 patients were discharged from hospital after recovery, including 98 local cases and 55 imported ones, and 14,817 close contacts were released from medical observation. The number of severe cases increased by one from the previous day.
The Chinese mainland had cumulatively reported 21,072 imported confirmed cases as of Saturday, with no deaths. Among them, 20,475 had been discharged from hospital following recovery.
There were still 597 active imported cases on the mainland, with two severe cases and no suspected case, on Saturday.
As of 24:00 on Saturday, the total number of local confirmed COVID-19 cases on the mainland had reached 230,886, with 5,226 deaths as a result of the virus.
A total of 223,651 COVID-19 patients had been discharged from hospital on the mainland. There were 2,009 patients still receiving treatment, of whom two were in severe condition.
As of Saturday, altogether 4,722,938 close contacts had been traced, of whom 93,522 were still under medical observation.
On Saturday, 478 new asymptomatic cases, with 79 from overseas and 399 locally transmitted, were reported on the mainland.
The commission also said 5,041 asymptomatic cases, including 645 imported ones, were still under medical observation.
A total of 35 asymptomatic cases, including six from overseas, were re-categorized as confirmed ones, and 640 asymptomatic cases, including 75 from overseas and 565 locally reported, were released from medical observation on Saturday.
As of Saturday, 360,087 confirmed cases, including 9,535 deaths, were reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), while 791 confirmed cases with six deaths were registered in the Macao SAR, and 4,716,819 cases including 9,187 deaths, in the Taiwan region of China.
As of Friday, a total of 3,425,593,000 vaccine doses had been administered in 31 provinces, municipalities, autonomous regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps.
