“Last night, the G7 gathered and issued a so-called ‘statement’ on the current situation across the Taiwan Strait. China firmly opposes this ‘statement’, because it confounds the right with the wrong and confuses black and white. It blatantly props up the infringer and mounts pressure on rights defenders. Where is the justice? And what are the basic norms governing international relations? If this tone is allowed to continue, regional peace and world peace will be seriously damaged. Therefore, China firmly rejects this ‘statement’.”

6. SOUNDBITE (Chinese) Wang Yi, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister:
“What China is defending is its own sovereignty and territorial integrity. What China is doing is safeguarding the basic norms governing international relations and common interests of most countries. Non-interference in internal affairs is a most basic principle for maintaining peace and stability in our world. The law of the jungle can not be allowed to rule over relations among nations. I believe that this so-called G7 ‘statement’ is just a sheer piece of waster paper and will never get support and positive response from the international community.”

9. SOUNDBITE (Chinese) Wang Yi, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister:
“What we have seen is that more than 100 countries have come out to express their attitude that they adhere to the one-China principle, support China in safeguarding its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and oppose the infringement of China’s sovereignty. As we have seen, the U.N. has also made its statement clear. U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and his spokesperson have said that the U.N. will continue to adhere to Resolution 2758, the core of which is that there is but one China in the world, and Taiwan is part of China. I believe this is the genuine voice of the international community.”

Storyline

The Taiwan-related statement issued lately by the Group of Seven (G7) foreign ministers is a sheer “piece of waste paper,” Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Thursday.

Wang made the statement in an exclusive interview with the China Media Group on the sidelines of the China-ASEAN foreign ministers’ meeting in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, in response to Wednesday’s statement of the G7 foreign ministers and the European Union high representative issued in the wake of Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi’s sneaky visit to China’s Taiwan region in disregard of China’s strong opposition and solemn representations.

Therefore, China firmly rejects this ‘statement’,” id Wang said.

Noting that the G7’s wrongdoing has aroused great indignation among the Chinese people, Wang said the sovereignty and independence of China and other countries were earned through bloody battles fought by the people and should never be infringed upon again.

I believe that this so-called G7 ‘statement’ is just a sheer piece of waster paper and will never get support and positive response from the international community,” Wang said.

The international community has blasted Pelosi’s visit for grossly infringing on China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, while expressing support for the one-China principle and all the necessary measures taken by the Chinese side to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Wednesday also affirmed the world body’s one-China policy as Pelosi’s Taiwan visit has created tensions.

I believe this is the genuine voice of the international community,” Wang said.

The U.N. General Assembly adopted Resolution 2758 in 1971, which decides to restore the lawful rights of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) in the United Nations and to recognize the representatives of the government of the People’s Republic of China as the only legitimate representatives of China to the United Nations.
