Storyline
A spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) said on Monday that the AEOI has been ordered to inject gas into hundreds of new centrifuges, including IR-1 machines and advanced IR-6 ones, to reactivate them to enrich uranium, in breaking restrictions of the Iran nuclear deal on the country.
Behrouz Kamalvandi, the spokesman, said this move was in line with the implementation of a strategic law of Iran aimed at removing anti-Iran sanctions and safeguarding the interests of the Iranian nation, according to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), the official news agency of Iran.
The International Atomic Energy Agency has already been informed of the measure, the spokesman noted.
Iran signed the Iran nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), with world powers including the United States in July 2015, agreeing to curb its nuclear program in return for the removal of sanctions on the country.
However, former U.S. President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew Washington from the JCPOA in May 2018 and reimposed sanctions on Tehran, prompting the latter to drop some of its commitments under the pact.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said on Monday that Iran is reviewing the new proposal by the EU coordinator for the revival of the 2015 nuclear deal, the IRNA reported.
The foreign minister emphasized that Iran is serious about reaching a strong, good and stable agreement. If the American side is realistic and has the necessary flexibility in the possible negotiations, reaching an agreement will not be far from the reach, he said.
