Storyline
The legislation of Basic Law Article 23 is conducive to the long-term prosperity and stability of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Reign (HKSAR), said Lou Qinjian, spokesman for the second session of the 14th National People’s Congress (NPC), China’s national legislature, on Monday.
The public consultation on the legislation of Article 23 of the Basic Law of the HKSAR launched by the HSAKR government in late January and ended on Feb 28. During the consultation period, a total of 13,147 opinions were solicited; among which, 98.64 percent of responses expressing support or positive views.
“This legislation dovetails with the National Security Law for Hong Kong, acting in conjunction with other laws in Hong Kong, co-establishing a systemic and sound legal system for safeguarding national security which is conducive to safeguarding national sovereignty, security and development interests, to maintaining prosperity and stability in Hong Kong in the long run, to ensuring the fundamental well-being of Hong Kong residents, and promoting or protecting the interests of global investors in Hong Kong and promoting lasting stability and security of Hong Kong and the sound and sustained development of ‘one country, two systems’,” said Lou.
