Storyline
A Chinese steel plant’s transformation from a heavy polluter to an environmentally-friendly producer and an inspiring tourist attraction, is featured in an episode of a new China Media Group documentary series called “Snapshots of Modernization”, which details the changes in every aspect of the life of ordinary Chinese people.
The episode focuses on Delong Steel Co. in north China’s Hebei Province, a major steel producing province, which was once home to seven of the ten most polluted cities in the country.
According to Delong’s electrician Mei Yanbin, his company started to invest heavily in green equipment in 2014, making a major difference to the working conditions at the plant and its surrounding environment.
In 2017, Mei and his colleagues were encouraged by the company to use scrap to make steel sculptures, to remind fellow steel producers and the public about the importance of green development.
A steel sculpture park where 300 impressive works are on display is now attracting visitors every day.
