Storyline
A foreign entrepreneur in China has designed a VR (virtual reality) product to allow people to immerse themselves in the beauty of Peking Opera without needing to visit the opera house.
Nikk Mitchell, a Kenyan-born Canadian man who has lived in China for 15 years, says his Chinese VR production studio uses modern technology to sustain the centuries-old charm of the Peking Opera.
His story is being told in an episode of the new China Media Group documentary series called “Snapshots of Modernization”, which details changes in every aspect of the life of ordinary Chinese people.
Mitchell says using new technology to bring new life to the UNESCO-listed intangible cultural heritage, while respecting and preserving its original intent, is a form of modernization.
Chinese modernization is socialist modernization pursued under the leadership of the Communist Party of China. It contains elements that are common to the modernization processes of all countries, but it has features that are unique to the Chinese context.
Chinese modernization is characterized by the following features: it is the modernization of a huge population, the modernization of common prosperity for all, the modernization of material and cultural-ethical advancement, the modernization of harmony between humanity and nature, and the modernization of peaceful development.
