Storyline
China’s Village Super League (VSL), or “Cun Chao” in Chinese, has given a big boost to local economy in Rongjiang County of southwest China’s Guizhou Province, and made life more enjoyable in the process of Chinese modernization.
The passionate story of this grassroots tournament was told in one episode of a new documentary titled “Snapshots of Modernization”, which is produced by China Media Group (CMG), the country’s flagship broadcaster.
The episode focuses on Dong Yongcheng, who runs a snack bar in the village but has loved football since a very younger age. He was a player in Zhongcheng Village football team in Rongjiang County, and became the top scorer in the village football league.
Dong said the football event has not only helped to fulfill his childhood dream, but brought more customers to his small restaurant.
The phenomenal event has boosted local economic growth. Rongjiang County received 3.3 million visitors from May to July this year during the matches. The influx of people generated 2.8 billion yuan (384.0 million U.S. dollars) by the end of July.
Players sweating and fans cheering demonstrated the positive results of China’s rural revitalization and Chinese modernization.
