Storyline
Chinese President Xi Jinping has from time to time hailed the working class for their contribution to the country’s development, advocating the spirit of hard work, and encouraging workers to have more brilliant achievements.
President Xi quoted classical Chinese literature at the teacher-student forum at Peking University in May 2018 to stress that hard work is the only way to realize one’s ideals and those of the nation.
“Even the shortest journey can’t be finished without taking the first step. Even the most trivial task can’t be completed without taking action,” Xi said.
The quote underlining the significance of accumulated efforts was from from the Confucian classic “Xunzi”. Xunzi was a renowned Chinese philosopher during the Warring States Period (475 BC-221 BC) and his namesake book is a compilation of his philosophical writings.
The remarks are included in the second season of video series “Classics Quoted by Xi Jinping” produced by China Media Group. Ahead of President Xi’s upcoming trip to Johannesburg for the 15th BRICS Summit and state visit to South Africa, the program started to be broadcast in 62 mainstream media outlets in 38 countries in Africa from Sunday.
The series, featuring Xi’s quotes from ancient Chinese stories and classics in his speeches and articles, vividly demonstrates Xi’s extensive and profound cultural attainment and his deep concern about the people and his deep love for the nation. It also extracts and interprets the broad and profound traditional Chinese culture that contains the connotation of the new era and the values of globalization.
