Storyline

The Chinese mainland reported 86 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases and 35 new imported ones on Wednesday, said the National Health Commission in its daily report on Thursday.

Of the new local cases, 36 were reported in Gansu, 32 in Guangdong, five each in Shanghai and Jiangxi, three in Hainan, two in Jiangsu, and one each in Inner Mongolia, Henan and Chongqing.

Meanwhile, the 35 new imported cases were reported in nine provincial-level regions, including 12 in Guangdong, seven in Fujian, six in Shanghai, three in Sichuan, two each in Chongqing and Yunnan, and one each in Tianjin, Jiangsu and Shaanxi.

Thirteen of the local cases and three of the imported cases were re-categorized as confirmed ones from asymptomatic cases.

No new deaths from COVID-19 or additional suspected cases were reported on the day.

On Wednesday, a total of 84 patients were discharged from hospital after recovery, including 26 imported cases and 58 domestic cases. Totally 10,134 close contacts were released from medical observation, and the number of severe cases remained the same as the previous day.

The Chinese mainland had cumulatively reported 19,880 imported confirmed cases, with no deaths. Among them, 19,439 had been discharged from hospital following recovery by Wednesday.

There were still 441 active imported cases on the mainland, with no severe cases and no suspected cases, by Wednesday.

As of 24:00 on Wednesday, the total number of local confirmed COVID-19 cases on the mainland had reached 227,030, including 1,119 patients still receiving treatment, of whom none was in severe condition.

A total of 220,685 COVID-19 patients had been discharged from hospital on the mainland, with 5,226 deaths as a result of the virus.

As of Wednesday, altogether 4,397,754 close contacts had been traced, with 118,334 still under medical observation.

On Wednesday, 245 new asymptomatic cases, with 39 from overseas and 206 locally transmitted, were reported on the mainland.

The commission also said 3,214 asymptomatic cases, including 379 imported ones, were still under medical observation.

Sixteen asymptomatic cases, including three from overseas, were re-categorized as confirmed ones, and 222 asymptomatic cases, including 38 from overseas and 184 locally reported, were released from medical observation on Wednesday.

As of Wednesday, 343,482 confirmed cases, including 9,422 deaths, had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), while 679 confirmed cases with four deaths were registered in the Macao SAR, and 4,162,290 cases, including 7,829 deaths, were reported in the Taiwan region of China.
