Storyline
China’s 14th National People’s Congress (NPC), the country’s national legislature, started the second plenary meeting of its annual session on Tuesday.
President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, and other Chinese leaders attended the meeting at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
Li Zhanshu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the 13th NPC, delivered a work report of the NPC Standing Committee to the meeting.
In his report, Li summed up the NPC Standing Committee’s work since last year, reviewed the work over the past five years and made suggestions for work in the year ahead.
Lawmakers will also hear the work report of the Supreme People’s Court presented by its president Zhou Qiang, the work report of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate by Procurator-General Zhang Jun, and the explanation of the plan on the reform of the State Council institutions by State Councilor and Secretary-General of the State Council Xiao Jie.
The first session of the 14th NPC, China’s national legislature, opened on March 5 and is scheduled to conclude on March 13.
