Storyline
Luo Cong, a 42-year-old public service film projectionist in southwest China’s Sichuan Province, carries on his father’s tradition by operating a traveling cinema in rural areas, bringing entertainment to local residents whose leisure activities were constrained after the fatal quake hit the province in 2008, thus illuminating their lives with colors of happiness.
The heartwarming tale of the projectionist and his father is presented in a new series titled “Snapshots of Modernization” produced by China Media Group (CMG), the country’s flagship broadcaster.
After the earthquake, life in the province has returned to normal, prompting authorities in Mianyang City to enlist projectionists, as a lack of television sets limited local residents’ leisure activities.
Luo’s father, a former projectionist, continues to assist his son after retirement, having worked with cine film four decades ago. Today, China’s rural areas boast 345 traveling cinemas which have access to a digital film trading platform featuring over 4,000 titles.
Luo’s heart swells with pride as an elderly man eagerly grasps his hand, passionately sharing his favorite moments of the film and revealing his personal preferences, igniting a deep sense of fulfillment in Luo as a projectionist dedicated to presenting films that evoke excitement and elicit heartfelt congratulations from the audience.
