Storyline
Media representatives gathered in Beijing on Thursday for the 11th Global Video Media Forum (VMF), and called for a more diverse, inclusive and healthy media landscape.
The 11th VMF, hosted by the China Media Group (CMG), has some 140 participants from both China and abroad, all united under the theme “vision for a shared future.”
The significance of the forum this year is underscored by its alignment with the 10-year milestone of the Belt and Road Initiative.
The launch of the Declaration on Joint Action from Belt and Road Media Organizations is one of the biggest outcomes of the event. It was jointly proposed by CMG, and more than 80 media organizations.
Shen Haixiong, vice head of the Publicity Department of Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and president of CMG, attended the forum and delivered a speech. He said the goal of the forum is to provide diverse perspectives in reporting to global audiences and promote the construction of a culturally inclusive, positive, and healthy international public opinion ecosystem.
The forum was also attended by Sun Yeli, deputy director of the Publicity Department of Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, Gregoire Ndjaka, chief executive officer of the African Union of Broadcasting (AUB), Ahmed Nadeem, secretary general of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union, Mohamed Jalal Alrayssi, director general at the Emirates News Agency, Kora Nou, managing director at the National Broadcasting Corporation of Papua New Guinea, Adrian Wells, managing director of European News Exchange, and Han Yong May, executive editor of Lianhe Zaobao. The participating guests delivered speeches on the scene or via video links.
Content related to the New Silk Road showcased at the forum include documentaries, TV programs, films and short videos. The event also marked the launch of a Global Partnership Program and the Middle East Media Alliance.
Participants say they hope the Belt and Road Initiative will further promote media exchanges and development in news reporting, technological innovation, video production, and other key areas.
