Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday stressed solid efforts in advancing the practice of “one country, two systems” and the cause of national reunification.
Addressing the closing meeting of the first session of the 14th National People’s Congress (NPC), China’s national legislature, Xi stressed the need to fully, faithfully and resolutely implement the policy of “one country, two systems” under which the people of Hong Kong administer Hong Kong and the people of Macao administer Macao, both with a high degree of autonomy.
“We must steadily advance the practice of ‘one country, two systems’ and the great cause of national reunification. The long-term prosperity and stability of Hong Kong and Macao are indispensable to building China into a strong country. It is necessary to fully, faithfully and resolutely implement the policy of ‘one country, two systems’ under which Hong Kong people administer Hong Kong and Macao people administer Macao and they both enjoy a high degree of autonomy.
