Storyline
China’s consumer price index (CPI), a main gauge of inflation, rose 2.7 percent year on year in July, the National Bureau of Statistics said on Wednesday.
The CPI in urban areas was up 2.6 percent and that in rural areas up 3.0 percent from a year earlier. Food prices shot up 6.3 percent and non-food prices 1.9 percent. The consumer goods prices increased by 4.0 percent and service prices by 0.7 percent.
The average consumer prices from January to July was up 1.8 percent over the same period of last year.
In addition, the CPI in July rose by 0.5 percent compared with last month.
