Storyline

The Chinese mainland reported 310 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases and 51 new imported ones on Friday, said the National Health Commission in its daily report on Saturday.

Of the new local cases, 262 were reported in Hainan, 22 in Inner Mongolia, 11 in Guangdong, seven in Zhejiang, four in Guangxi, three in Chongqing and one in Sichuan, the commission said.

The 51 new imported cases were reported in 12 provincial-level regions, comprising 11 each in Fujian and Guangdong, eight in Shanghai, six in Yunnan, five in Beijing, four in Sichuan, and one each in Tianjian, Liaoning, Heilongjiang, Jiangsu, Shandong and Hunan, according to the commission.

Seventeen of the local cases and four of the imported ones were re-categorized as confirmed cases from asymptomatic ones.

No new deaths from COVID-19 or additional suspected cases were reported on the day.

On Friday, 212 COVID-19 patients were discharged from hospital after recovery, comprising 149 local cases and 63 imported ones, and 14,856 close contacts were released from medical observation. The number of local severe cases was the same with the previous day.

The Chinese mainland had cumulatively reported 21,019 imported confirmed cases as of Friday, with no deaths. Among them, 20,420 had been discharged from hospital following recovery.

There were still 599 active imported cases on the mainland, with one severe case and no suspected cases, on Friday.

As of 24:00 on Friday, the total number of local confirmed COVID-19 cases on the mainland had reached 230,496, with 5,226 deaths as a result of the virus.

A total of 223,498 COVID-19 patients had been discharged from hospital after recovery on the mainland. On the day, there were 1,772 patients still receiving treatment, of whom one was in severe condition.

As of Friday, altogether 4,711,419 close contacts had been traced, of whom 96,867 were still under medical observation.

On Friday, 343 new asymptomatic cases, with 68 from overseas and 275 locally transmitted, were reported on the mainland.

The commission also said 5,238 asymptomatic cases, including 647 imported ones, were still under medical observation.

On Friday, 688 asymptomatic cases, including 49 from overseas, were released from medical observation.

As of Friday, 359,370 confirmed cases, including 9,531 deaths, were reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), while 791 confirmed cases with six deaths were registered in the Macao SAR, and 4,696,969 cases including 9,136 deaths, in the Taiwan region of China.
