Storyline
Any die-hard “Taiwan independence” elements who challenge the law personally will not be able to escape severe punishment under national laws, a mainland official said on Wednesday.
Ma Xiaoguang, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, made the remarks when asked to comment on an incident where a “Taiwan independence” activist was investigated by state security organs in accordance with the law on Wednesday.
State security organs have taken measures in accordance with the law against “Taiwan independence” elements suspected of endangering national security, showing that “Taiwan independence” die-hard elements who test the law cannot escape severe punishment, Ma said.
On Wednesday, the State Security Bureau in Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province, detained Yang Zhiyuan, a criminal suspect who has long been engaged in secessionist activities seeking “Taiwan independence” and is suspected of endangering national security.
Yang, a resident of Taichung City of China’s Taiwan region, is suspected of committing secessionist activities and inciting secession.
