Storyline

China’s large maritime patrol vessel in the Taiwan Strait Haixun-06 on Tuesday sailed into the waters off the southern part of Fujian Province to carry out marine patrol and law enforcement activity.

In the coming days, Haixun-06 will continue its patrol and law enforcement activity in the waters off the southern part of Fujian and conduct emergency response drills in conjunction with relevant maritime departments.

This patrol mission of Haixun-06 will last for seven days. It patrolled an area stretching about 97 nautical miles for nine hours on Tuesday.

Haixun-06 was commissioned on July 11 in Pingtan. It’s the first large vessel carrying out patrol missions in the Taiwan Strait. With a total length of 128.6 meters, a width of 16 meters, and a full load displacement of 6,600 tons, the vessel is capable to reach all seas in the world except the North and South Poles.

The patrol vessel is expected to effectively strengthen China’s maritime supervision and service capabilities in Fujian’s coastal areas, improve the dynamic control of water traffic and the emergency response of ship accidents, and play an important role in ensuring the smooth transportation of goods and the safety of important shipping channels.
