Storyline
The Chinese mainland reported 46 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases and 61 new imported ones on Monday, said the National Health Commission in its daily report on Tuesday.
Of the new local cases, 10 were reported in Gansu, nine each in Guangxi and Sichuan, seven each in Inner Mongolia and Fujian, two in Henan, and one each in Hainan and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, the commission said.
The 61 new imported cases were reported in nine provincial-level regions, comprising 30 in Guangdong, eight each in Shanghai and Fujian, four in Jiangsu, three each in Beijing, Sichuan and Yunnan, and one each in Chongqing and Shaanxi.
Twenty of the local cases and eight of the imported cases were re-categorized as confirmed cases from asymptomatic ones.
No new deaths from COVID-19 or additional suspected cases were reported on the day.
On Monday, 191 COVID-19 patients were discharged from hospital after recovery, comprising 141 local cases and 50 imported ones, and 10,425 close contacts were released from medical observation. The number of local severe cases decreased by two from the previous day.
The Chinese mainland had cumulatively reported 20,787 imported confirmed cases as of Monday, with no deaths. Among them, 20,246 had been discharged from hospital following recovery.
There were still 541 active imported cases on the mainland, with no severe cases and no suspected cases, on Monday.
As of 24:00 on Monday, the total number of local confirmed COVID-19 cases on the mainland had reached 229,701, with 5,226 deaths as a result of the virus.
A total of 222,881 COVID-19 patients had been discharged from hospital on the mainland. There were 1,594 patients still receiving treatment, of whom two were in severe condition.
As of Monday, altogether 4,671,492 close contacts had been traced, of whom 129,726 were still under medical observation.
On Monday, 391 new asymptomatic cases, with 64 from overseas and 327 locally transmitted, were reported on the mainland.
The commission also said 6,572 asymptomatic cases, including 587 imported ones, were still under medical observation.
Twenty-eight asymptomatic cases, including eight from overseas, were re-categorized as confirmed ones, and 666 asymptomatic cases, including 58 from overseas, were released from medical observation on Monday.
As of Monday, 356,574 confirmed cases, including 9,509 deaths, were reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), while 791 confirmed cases with six deaths were registered in the Macao SAR, and 4,604,761 cases including 8,963 deaths, in the Taiwan region of China.
