Storyline
The Chinese mainland reported 49 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases and 51 new imported ones on Friday, said the National Health Commission in its daily report on Saturday.
Of the new local cases, 19 were reported in Gansu, 15 in Guangxi, 10 in Sichuan, two in Shandong, and one each in Shanghai, Henan and Guangdong, the commission said.
The 51 new imported cases were reported in 11 provincial-level regions, including 13 in Fujian, 12 in Shanghai, six in Guangdong, five in Beijing, four each in Sichuan and Shaanxi, two each in Liaoning and Shandong, and one each in Shanxi, Hubei and Yunnan, according to the commission.
Twenty-one of the local cases and two of the imported ones were re-categorized as confirmed cases from asymptomatic ones.
No new deaths from COVID-19 were reported on Friday. Shanghai on the day reported one additional imported suspected case.
On Friday, 99 COVID-19 patients were discharged from hospital after recovery, including 59 local cases and 40 imported ones, and 12,613 close contacts were released from medical observation. The number of local severe cases decreased by 14 from the previous day.
The Chinese mainland had cumulatively reported 20,633 imported confirmed cases as of Friday, with no deaths. Among them, 20,092 had been discharged from hospital following recovery.
There were still 541 active imported cases on the mainland, with no severe cases and one suspected case, on Friday.
As of 24:00 on Friday, the total number of local confirmed COVID-19 cases on the mainland had reached 229,394, with 5,226 deaths as a result of the virus.
A total of 222,413 COVID-19 patients had been discharged from hospital on the mainland. There were 1,755 patients still receiving treatment, of whom 11 were in severe condition.
As of Friday, altogether 4,637,895 close contacts had been traced, of whom 131,465 were still under medical observation.
On Friday, 348 new asymptomatic cases, with 77 from overseas and 271 locally transmitted, were reported on the mainland.
The commission also said 7,136 asymptomatic cases, including 581 imported ones, were still under medical observation.
Twenty-three asymptomatic cases, including two from overseas, were re-categorized as confirmed ones, and 389 asymptomatic cases, including 51 from overseas, were released from medical observation on Friday.
As of Friday, 354,454 confirmed cases, including 9,498 deaths, were reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), while 791 confirmed cases with six deaths were registered in the Macao SAR, and 4,545,636 cases including 8,833 deaths, in the Taiwan region of China.
