Storyline

The United States had recorded more than 91.09 million confirmed COVID-19 cases nationwide, including over 1.029 million deaths as of Thursday, according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.

Specifically, the country’s case count totaled 91,094,590, with death toll hitting 1,029,232 as of 20:20 Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) on Thursday.

As means of mitigation, a total of 597,929,374 vaccine doses were administered across the country.

A new round of COVID-19 outbreak is sweeping the United States, triggering another sharp rise in infections in relevant major cities.

In New York State, the epidemic has driven high the hospitalization rates, with COVID-19-related inpatients numbering highest level since mid-February.

According to the data released by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 82 percent of the new coronavirus cases in the country were caused by the new BA.5 variant of Omicron.

As of Wednesday, the number of COVID-19 inpatients in New York State approached 2,800, indicating a 50-percent rise over the past month. In New York City, the rising rate is accelerating to 70 percent, overwhelming ICUs throughout local hospitals.
