Storyline

The Chinese mainland on Saturday reported 106 new locally-transmitted confirmed COVID-19 cases, as well as 48 imported ones, according to the National Health Commission’s daily report on Sunday.

There was no new death and no new suspected case.

On Saturday, 94 COVID-19 patients were discharged from hospital after recovery, including 53 local cases, and 14,672 close contacts were released from medical observation. The number of local severe cases increased by two from the previous day.

The Chinese mainland has cumulatively reported 20,031 imported confirmed cases, with no death. Among them, 19,565 had been discharged from hospital following recovery while 466 remained hospitalized, with no one in severe conditions.

As of 24:00 on July 16, the total number of local confirmed COVID-19 cases on the mainland had reached 227,426, including 1,229 patients still receiving treatment, of whom three were in severe conditions.

A total of 220,971 COVID-19 patients had been discharged from hospital on the mainland, and 5,226 had died as a result of the virus. Overall, 4,438,098 close contacts have been traced and 122,049 close contacts are still under medical observation.

On Saturday, 537 new asymptomatic cases, with 63 from overseas and 474 locally transmitted, were reported.

The commission also said 3,673 asymptomatic cases, including 400 imported ones, were still under medical observation.

Twenty-six asymptomatic cases, three from overseas, were re-categorized as active ones, and 295 asymptomatic cases, 32 from overseas, were released from medical observation on Saturday.

As of Saturday, 345,379 confirmed cases including 9,433 deaths had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), together with 727 confirmed cases in the Macao SAR with five deaths, and 4,240,466 cases including 8,103 deaths in the Taiwan region of China.
