Storyline
The Chinese mainland reported 57 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases and 41 new imported ones on Tuesday, said the National Health Commission in its daily report on Wednesday.
Of the new local cases, 16 were reported in Guangdong, eight in Gansu, seven in Anhui, five each in Shanghai, Jiangsu and Shandong, four in Inner Mongolia, three each in Henan and Hainan, and one in Jiangxi, the commission said.
A total of 41 new imported cases were reported in 13 provincial-level regions, including nine each in Shanghai and Guangdong, eight in Fujian, three in Hunan, two each in Tianjin, Inner Mongolia and Yunnan, and one each in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shandong, Chongqing, Sichuan and Shaanxi, according to the commission.
Six of the local cases and four of the imported cases were re-categorized as confirmed ones from asymptomatic cases.
No new deaths from COVID-19 or additional suspected cases were reported on the day.
On Tuesday, 76 COVID-19 patients were discharged from hospital after recovery, including 45 local cases and 31 imported ones, and 5,745 close contacts were released from medical observation. The number of local severe cases was unchanged from the previous day.
The Chinese mainland had cumulatively reported 19,845 imported confirmed cases, with no deaths. Among them, 19,413 had been discharged from hospital following recovery by Tuesday.
There were still 432 active imported cases on the mainland, with no severe cases and no suspected cases, by Tuesday.
As of 24:00 on Tuesday, the total number of local confirmed COVID-19 cases on the mainland had reached 226,909, including 1,082 patients still receiving treatment, of whom none was in severe condition.
A total of 220,601 COVID-19 patients had been discharged from hospital on the mainland, with 5,226 deaths as a result of the virus.
As of Tuesday, altogether 4,380,156 close contacts had been traced, of whom 110,958 were still under medical observation.
On Tuesday, 240 new asymptomatic cases, with 36 from overseas and 204 locally transmitted, were reported on the mainland.
The commission also said 3,207 asymptomatic cases, including 381 imported ones, were still under medical observation.
Ten asymptomatic cases, including four from overseas, were re-categorized as confirmed ones, and 231 asymptomatic cases, including 26 from overseas, were released from medical observation on Tuesday.
As of Tuesday, 342,868 confirmed cases, including 9,420 deaths, had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), while 663 confirmed cases with three deaths were registered in the Macao SAR, and 4,132,429 cases including 7,780 deaths, in the Taiwan region of China.
