Storyline
The Chinese mainland reported 69 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases and 38 new imported ones on Monday, said the National Health Commission in its daily report on Tuesday.
Of the new local cases, 22 were reported in Guangdong, nine each in Henan and Hainan, eight in Shandong, five each in Shanghai, Jiangsu and Anhui, two each in Inner Mongolia and Zhejiang, and one each in Sichuan and Shaanxi, the commission said.
Thirty-eight new imported cases were reported in 10 provincial-level regions, including 11 in Guangdong, eight in Shanghai, six in Fujian, four in Tianjin, two each in Jiangxi, Yunnan and Shaanxi, and one each in Shandong, Chongqing and Sichuan, according to the commission.
Ten of the local cases and two of the imported cases were re-categorized as confirmed ones from asymptomatic cases.
No new deaths from COVID-19 or additional suspected cases were reported on the day.
On Monday, 94 COVID-19 patients were discharged from hospital after recovery, including 58 local cases and 36 imported ones, and 4,109 close contacts were released from medical observation. The number of local severe cases was unchanged from the previous day.
The Chinese mainland had cumulatively reported 19,804 imported confirmed cases, with no deaths. Among them, 19,382 had been discharged from hospital following recovery by Monday.
There were still 422 active imported cases on the mainland, with no severe cases and no suspected cases, by Monday.
As of 24:00 on Monday, the total number of local confirmed COVID-19 cases on the mainland had reached 226,811, including 1,060 patients still receiving treatment, of whom none was in severe condition.
A total of 220,525 COVID-19 patients had been discharged from hospital on the mainland, with 5,226 deaths as a result of the virus.
As of Monday, altogether 4,363,783 close contacts had been traced, of whom 100,334 were still under medical observation.
On Monday, 317 new asymptomatic cases, with 39 from overseas and 278 locally transmitted, were reported on the mainland.
The commission also said 3,208 asymptomatic cases, including 375 imported ones, were still under medical observation.
Twelve asymptomatic cases, including two from overseas, were re-categorized as confirmed ones, and 191 asymptomatic cases, including 44 from overseas, were released from medical observation on Monday.
As of Monday, 342,359 confirmed cases, including 9,419 deaths, had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), while 642 confirmed cases with two deaths were registered in the Macao SAR, and 4,101,156 cases including 7,720 deaths, in the Taiwan region of China.
