During my election campaign, my first impression is that a lot of wisdom is from the people. Different classes have cooperated to solve the problems. It’s not just the government. If every region is involved, our strength will be great. If the numerous people with opportunities and abilities in every industry and community all join us, we will have more confidence to solve the problems.”

Storyline
Hong Kong needs to stick together to overcome current difficulties facing society, said Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu in an online interview with China Central Television (CCTV) on Monday.
Lee was sworn in as the sixth-term chief executive of the HKSAR on Friday at a meeting celebrating the 25th anniversary of Hong Kong’s return to the motherland.
“There are many problems in Hong Kong that I believe every government has tried their best to solve. However, many problems that have long not been resolved involve deep-rooted problems, so to solve these difficult problems, I think we must work with one heart and mind to gather strength,” said Lee.
“So here solidarity has two meanings. First, within the government, no matter what the chief executive does or how he does it, the whole government needs to stick together to generate enough strength and coordinative effects,” he added.
The new chief made it clear that he believes with the cooperation of everyone, from the government to the public, solutions will be found.
“More importantly, the whole of Hong Kong needs to solve the problems together so that our strength will be greater. During my election campaign, my first impression is that a lot of wisdom is from the people. Different classes have cooperated to solve the problems. It’s not just the government. If every region is involved, our strength will be great. If the numerous people with opportunities and abilities in every industry and community all join us, we will have more confidence to solve the problems,” said Lee.
“For example, the housing problem that has plagued Hong Kong for years involves many levels of interests or difficulties in coordination. The government alone may only be able to solve part of the problem, but we can have many capable people from the public work with us to solve the problems better, faster and more effectively,” added Lee.
